Life in the Spirit

Jesus promised that He and the Father would come and make their home with us, if we keep His commandments.

In the night when He was betrayed, Jesus said:

In My Father’s house are many dwelling places . . . I go to prepare a place for you . . . I will not leave you orphans, I will come to you. A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. At that day you will know that I am in the Father, and you in Me, and I in you . . . If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him” (John 14:2,18-20,23).

The house Jesus spoke of is the Church of God, the Body of Christ. We must remain in the Body of Christ, to have a life with Christ.

Abide in Me; apart from Me you can do nothing
As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me . . . If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.”
John 15:4, 6

We must abide in Christ to bear fruit. “. . . the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Galatians 5:22,23).

It is only when we remain in the Spirit, that we can bear fruit, without which we cannot please God.

Jesus said, “the words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63). Keeping ourselves in Christ’s words is another way we can keep ourselves in the Spirit.
