Jesus promised that He and the Father would come and make their home with us, if we keep His commandments.
In the night when He was betrayed, Jesus said:
“In My Father’s house are many dwelling places . . . I go to prepare a place for you . . . I will not leave you orphans, I will come to you. A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. At that day you will know that I am in the Father, and you in Me, and I in you . . . If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him” (John 14:2,18-20,23).
The house Jesus spoke of is the Church of God, the Body of Christ. We must remain in the Body of Christ, to have a life with Christ.
John 15:4, 6
We must abide in Christ to bear fruit. “. . . the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Galatians 5:22,23).
It is only when we remain in the Spirit, that we can bear fruit, without which we cannot please God.
Jesus said, “the words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63). Keeping ourselves in Christ’s words is another way we can keep ourselves in the Spirit.
